The Grant is intended to assist in training rural staff both in the field and through classroom training. The basic criteria used to evaluate requests are:
- Does the request benefit CUPA program implementation and enforcement?
- The request is a one-time training services request, not an ongoing request for services.
- The request is for assistance in one or more of the CUPA program elements.
- The request is achievable and realistic.
- The results are quantifiable; ideally, the number of staff training days and number of staff trained.
- The intended recipient's prior grant awards are considered prior to approval.
- The ability of the recipient to actually pay for the requested services.
- The requesting agency fits the definition of a Rural County (less than 150,000 total population).
It means that the employer does not have to pay payroll taxes, the minimum wage or overtime, comply with other wage and hour law requirements such as providing meal periods and rest breaks, or reimburse their workers for business expenses incurred in performing their jobs. Additionally, employers do not have to cover independent contractors under workers' compensation insurance and are not liable for payments under unemployment insurance, disability insurance, or Social Security. That means that you will be responsible for taxes on the money you earn and, if you are injured on the job, you are not covered by workers' compensation laws.
Yes. The Grant will pay for and arrange lodging for trainers as required. If travel to the training site is required, the Grant will cover those costs, including airfare and/or mileage. Once at the training site, trainers will be responsible for the first 50 miles of mileage accrued each day.
Absolutely, as long as you have maintained your REHS, ICC, or other certifications. We welcome retirees to participate, bringing all of their experience and knowledge with them.
